The conceptualization and design of our Metropolis fine jewelry collection, that combines sterling silver, anodized titanium and gemstones, has required a significant research effort. Considering that we have a soft spot for the Bauhaus art school, we could not ignore its footprint in Fritz Lang’s cult movie Metropolis.
I.- Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar
Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar, commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was an art school in Germany. Founded by architect Walter Gropius with a a pragmatic approach to integrating theory and praxis, the main objective of the Bauhaus was to merge traditional arts and crafts with modern technologies; this is, the creation of a ‘total’ work of art in which all artistic disciplines would eventually be brought together.
Yesterday I received a new delivery of The ProjektList and I could not help but think immediatly about this blog post, as the mentioned newsletter delivered news about a band that suits perfectly our Singular Soundtrack. But first comes first, let’s begin with a brief introduction to Projekt Records.
Unfortunately, the famous actor Robin Williams has recently died. As a humble tribute, we wanted to recall one quote that we have always loved:
You are only given one little spark of madness. You musn’t lose it.
Gee, it’s great to be hidjus!

1.- Who was Émilie Marie Bouchaud (aka Polaire)?
Born at the crossroads of Agha, near Algiers, she moved with her family to Paris in 1889. She was sent back to her grandmother in Algiers after the death of her sister Lucile, but she ran away to rejoin her mother in France in September 1890. However, she preferred to avoid her mother’s partner and approached first her brother Edmond (the only suvriving sibling of 11 brothers). Edmond had already gained some fame as a café-concert singer under the name of Dufleuve, and thanks to his support she auditioned successfully for her first job as a café singer. Aged about 17 as debutant, Polaire never left her mother when success led her to tour around the world.
A comedic actress, Polaire became one of the major celebrities of her day and later, as cinema developed, appeared in several films. Polaire’s career in the entertainment industry stretched from the early 1890s to the mid-1930s and encompassed the range from music-hall singer to stage and film actress. Her most successful period professionally was from the mid-1890s to the beginning of the First World War.
I. Decimononic confirmed as exhibitor at Madrid Joya 2014
Irene and I are thrilled because this Autumn looks really exciting. Are you wondering why? Because after several months of hard work, our new jewelry collection will be presented next month. It is very different from the Machinarium Collection on a technical and aesthetical level, but naturally it has been conceived as a hymn to Singularity.
But we are not only going to present a brand new collection… we are going to do it on a large scale, as a preview of this new collection, entitled Metropolis, is going to be presented at Madrid Joya 2014, the biggest trade fair for the Spanish jewelry industry. The 51th edition of this event will take place from 10 to 14th September and our fine jewelry pieces will be available at booth 10H18A, together with the creations of other members of the Spanish Jewelry d’Auteur Association (‘Asociación Joyas de Autor’ in Spanish). By the way, we have to say that we feel highly honored to have joined recently this non-profit organization that aims to spread Jewelry d’Auteur worldwide.
Are you intrigued about the upcoming Metropolis fine jewelry collection by Decimononic? Are you wondering why have we chosen this name? What will it look like? Which materials are to expected? Which technical challenges have we had to overcome? The wait may prove lengthy, so we are going to give you a sneak peak of it.
