We discovered this artist some time ago, thanks to the always enlightening newsletter of Jordan Reyne. Shayfer James is a theatrical songwriter that allows the listener to enjoy an unfathomable world, full of darkly lyrical and evocative stories. A very personal artistic proposal shaped by poetry, piano, delicate arrangements and outstanding performing skills.
He has toured the eastern half of the USA and has performed with his trio at festivals and events like CMJ NYC, Art Basel, Miami, Foburg Fest, New Orleans, and Hope & Glory, Hong Kong. His influences? Artists such as Billie Holiday, Stephen Sondheim, Sam Cooke, Stravinsky, Nat King Cole, Radiohead, Cole Porter, Fiona Apple, Nina Simone…
Shayfer James has released two full-length albums over the past several years (The Owl & The Elephant and Counterfeit Arcade) and the release of a new collection of songs is in the way: Haunted Things, an EP addressing the ways in which we are all haunted by the concepts of love, sex, romance and chivalry.
‘Weight of the world’ is a rhythmic song with a charming creepy video that deserves to be featured in our ‘Singular Soundtrack’ Hope you like it!
