On 7th March we published a blog post to share with you that Decimononic had been featured on the blog of the community for jewelers and jewelry lovers ANILLOSyJOYAS with a post entitled ‘Decimononic, una experiencia sensorial biomecánica’ (this is, ‘Decimononic, a biomechanical sensory experience’). Beyond this blog post, ANILLOSyJOYAS team has considered Decimononic project relevant enough to interview us.
The interviewer was Marta Vinardell, Community Manager of ANILLOSyJOYAS, and we hope that you find this interview valuable to learn a bit more about Decimononic. If you speak Spanish you can read the complete interview on our Slideshare account (document embedded below). If you do not speak Spanish, you will probably find useful some help from Google Translator.
This is just a quick blog post to thank the content related to Decimononic published in two Spanish websites recently:
1. The community for jewelers and jewelry lovers ANILLOSyJOYAS has published a blog post entitled ‘Decimononic, una experiencia sensorial biomecánica’ (this is, ‘Decimononic, a biomechanical sensory experience’).
2.A video channel for Decimononic has been created by videos.joyeria-artesanal.es (‘handmade jewelry’).
We are very happy to see that our designs are being very well accepted, thank you all for your continuous support!
Just before last Christmas we were contacted by Gemelolandia’s team. Surfing the web looking for new suppliers they happened to discover our sterling silver cufflinks with vintage watch movements. After some conversations, we confirmed that real collaboration opportunities could arise and decided to start working together. The result is our new cufflinks series: Tempus Fugit Collection.
This collection includes three different models of cufflinks, exclusively designed for Gemelolandia: Alpha (with round non-functional vintage watch movements), Beta (with rectangular non-functional vintage watch movements) and Gamma (with rhombic non-functional vintage watch movements). There is no need to say that these cufflinks are handmade on demand, one by one, using sterling silver and professional silversmithing techniques. They are presented in an elegant aluminium and rubber jewelry box.
We invite you visit Gemelolandia in order to learn more about this company. It has been founded by three partners with crystal clear ideas and one obsession: offering top quality exclusive cufflinks with total reliability. Not in vain Gemelolandia means ‘Cufflinks’ Land’ in Spanish.
Yesterday we had a very interesting conversation regarding craftworks, jewelry and luxury. As you already know, Decimononic focuses its activity on fine jewelry at present, but… what’s fine jewelry?
I.- Fine Jewelry
Let me clarify that fine jewelry covers a vast range of jewels. This concept traditionally refers to jewelry that is made with precious metals and uses gemstones (often faceted or specially cut). It is distinct from fashion, costume or fake jewelry, which tends to be made from inexpensive, commonplace materials.
In recent years, however, innovative designers have begun to treat materials once considered inappropriate for this purpose (titanium, steel, etc.) with the same respect they give to platinum and gold. This obviously means that the definition of fine jewelry is undergoing a revision and Decimononic aims to be an active player in this process.
Although artisan jewelry, characterized by one-of-a-kind or small production works, may be easier to be found in an art show, a gallery or a boutique rather than in a typical jewelry, there is no need to explain that artisan jewelry is likely to fit into the fine jewelry category depending on the chosen materials and techniques.
Let’s talk now about luxury. As per Oxford Dictionaries:
1.- The challenge
Have you ever wondered what is steampunk jewelry? Does every jewelry piece hide a story? Is it fashion, is it art, or maybe both? Which trends are arising? We have asked these and many more questions to ourselves and, even though we have already come to some conclusions, we would like to gauge the pulse of the Steampunk scene. We want to find out what steampunkers think about all this, but how? That’s an excelent question.
2.- The solution
Alright. Conversations are powerful, aren’t they? After taking different possibilities into consideration, we are very excited to announce that we are going to begin a series of brief interviews entitled ‘Steampunk jewelry tonight with…’.
We are planning to interview movers and shakers, opinion leaders, rebels, outliers, visionaries. Fashion designers, journalists, photographers, musicians… do you think you can throw light on this issue? Something to say about this topic? Then we would love to hear from you. If you consider yourself suitable or you know someone who would suit this profile, feel free to contact us any time.
3.- The kickoff
Hilde Heyvaert has kindly accepted the defiance invitation to become our first interviewee. Hilde has been fashion editor and reviewer for the Gatehouse Gazette since the very first issue and has her own fashion and costume project: House of Secrets Incorporated. There is no need to say that we feel really grateful for her generosity.
This series of brief interview’s may not be a talk show, but these interviews are expected to be fun and revealing. The first one is going to be published soon, stay tuned!
