I.- About Royal Couture
Royal Couture is an emerging high fashion company born to shake up the bridal and party fashion with its creations. Their clothing is characterised by the magic and refinement extracted from dance, opera, painting and the most acclaimed icons of the international Haute Couture. The essence of Romanticism and Art Nouveau distinguish garments that transform their wearers into the protagonists of an enchanted story to be remembered forever.
Using unique fabrics coming from distant places such as India or New York, so exclusive that turn the garments into unrepeatable works of art, Royal Couture makes daydream garments through handcrafted production in Spain. Extremely elegant and exclusive patterns, hand-sown embroideries and exquisite attention to detail are some of the identity signs of the brand.
Singularity in its purest state, isn’t it?
II.- A micro-interview with Mª Ángeles Guisado Ruiz
We have had the pleasure to collaborate with Mª Ángeles in the past and, hopefully, new collaboration opportunities will arise in the future. She has been kind enough to agree to a micro-interview for this blog post. Go on reading to come to know more about Royal Couture!
Royal Couture is a new brand, but you are not a newcomer to the world of fashion design. Tell us about the story behind Royal Couture, please.
I was born in a family with two seamstress grandmothers, they taught me how to create my own dresses when I was very young. I studied Fashion Design in Granada, and then I studied a Master in Costume Design for Theatre and Opera.
In 2008 I opened my own showroom for costume design (El Costurero Real) for ballet, opera and theatre, and I worked for years in diverse projects that allowed me to experiment and learn very different techniques and design skills from different historical periods, with all type of materials.
Creating a new brand is a high risk experience, but I’m facing the development of Royal Couture with great illusion. I have had the idea of this new brand for a few years now, so starting with strong concepts and clearly defined ideas has been easy for me.
How would you define the style Royal Couture exemplifies?
For me, Royal Couture is a brand with a very romantic atmosphere, I try to evoke the look and feel of fairy tales with our corporate image and designs, something delicate and intrepid at the same time. Something that speaks to our clients about the sweet and mysterious style of our garments. I want all this to recall a ‘once upon a time’ sensation…
I think that our proposal is addressed to a daring but at the same time classical woman. A woman who values attention to detail, the possibility to acquire something special and who does not resign herself to just follow the mainstream trends. The Royal Couture average client looks for something that fits in with her personality and sends a message about her.
I cannot deny that my career in theatre and screen costume design has influenced me. I adore the Victorian era and the Middle Ages. I try to reflect this in my creations, keeping a touch of classicism, attention to detail, patronage or color. I design the garments imagining the final scene, thinking how beautiful would be the bride wearing this or that color, like a film still, and I try to keep all the elements in line with this idea.
What are your favorite fabrics to work with and why?
I love silks, specially chiffon silk and satin. I use them a lot. The silk in chiffon and satin silk are very soft and make very elegant movements when you are walking.
What do you look forward to in a working day?
Productive work, happy customers and some press reviews of my work. This sounds like a perfect working day for me.
If you could dress any celebrity who would it be?
I would love to dress Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine. I love her music and the way she looks and dress.
Where would you like your work to lead you?
I want to be a reference for romantic bridal and high fashion. I am working very hard in branding, so I hope Royal Couture to become internationally known in some years.
I want all this to recall a ‘once upon a time’ sensation…
