Our choice this time is ‘Drawing up a storm’, the song (and album) created from scratch by Paulina Cassidy.
As the singular lyrics go:
it’s in the shadows of the waves
they’re pulling me away
it’s in this night so warm
i’m drawing up a storm

A micro-interview with Paulina Cassidy
Can you think of anyone better than the songcrafter herself to tell you about her own world? Neither do we and this is why we are thrilled to bring you a micro-interview with her. Let’s go!
Decimononic (D).- Tell us your story, where did it all start for you?
Paulina Cassidy (PC).- I used to compose little songs by piano when I was a child, but I was too busy with my art career to be able to take the time to delve into music-making. It was in 2009 when I finally wrote and produced my first album, ‘Bloodroots’. All those songs had been hiding away for a long time. Once I opened that door, a tidal wave of tunes came pouring through. I now have four independent albums, as well as two albums and an EP through Projekt Records.
D.- What are the concepts that most interest you?
I tend to lean toward the mysterious, such as inter-dimensional travel and dreamwork. I like to carve and shape sounds that bring forth a world from an alternate time and place. My songs are descriptive of nature, and the merging of the human spirit with nature.
D.- What unexpected things inspired ‘Drawing up a storm’?
PC.- Oceans, and the beings that reside within, such as seahorses. Summer storms, fog, and the blend of sky and sea. The dance of fireflies at dusk. The hidden creatures that lurk in the deepest of forests. The ‘unseen’ nature beings.
D.- Who do you collaborate with creatively? Why have you chosen Projekt Records to release this album?
PC.- I’ve been a longtime fan of Projekt Records, most notably Sam Rosenthal’s band, Black Tape For a Blue Girl. Back in 2012, I sent Sam a cover of ‘Frosty the Snowman’ for a Projekt holiday CD. The song was well-received. I’m happy to say that I’ve been a part of the Projekt family ever since.
D.- Where would you like your work to lead you?
PC.- Most of my time is spent creating visual art. However, music-making is just as important for me these days. I’ll always be experimenting with new songs, new concepts. The songs take me where they want to go — in all seriousness, they’re the boss. I’m the vessel, sailing them in, and am along for the ride.
