Almost two years have gone by since we designed this slides presentation in order to explain the purpose of Decimononic. We feel that Decimononic has grown and matured during this period and the moment has come to share with you a new slides presentation that summarizes our creed in just five commandments.
The aforementioned slides presentation is embedded below, followed by a brief explanation.
The #5 Commandments of Singularity
1. Every human being is unique and has the right and duty to make the most of this uniqueness, whatever the cost.
This is not the first time we refer to the Oxford Dictionaries’ definition of ‘Singular’; in short, unique, exceptionally good, strange/eccentric. This is why we aim to pioneer Singularity.
Our creations are conceived to become reminders for all those who are resolved to become who they want to be, even if this means defying the status quo. No effort spared, no worry about what other people might say. Regardless of gender, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation, if you are ready to make the most of your own singularity, we are by your side: empowering singular individuals through singular jewelry.
As we said back in June 2011, ‘we do think that every one of us has a different story to tell, every single person is unique. And we conceive Decimononic as a way to boost this uniqueness, designing singular pieces for singular individuals and creating inspiration sources for all of us who really want to honour the singularity of every human being’.
2. Every human being is a global citizen and developing a collaborative and sustainable economy is mandatory.
We are convinced of the unsustainability of an economic system based on over-consumption, programmed obsolescence, abuse of disposable goods… and for this reason we have published blog posts such as ‘The importance of purpose’, ‘Toward a Circular Economy’, ‘The importance of upcycling’, etc.
Fortunately, if we all assume our individual responsibility, we will succeed. It is time to act!
3. Deep knowledge about our past is indispensable to build a better future.
As the American poet and philosopher George Santayana said, ‘Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it’. Therefore, we look back at the past searching for inspiration in artistic and literary movements of late 19th and early 20th centuries: the dark side of the Victorian era, Symbolism and Decadentism, Art Nouveau and Art Decó, and the corresponding retrofuturisms are really significant for our creative endeavors. They provide us with the possibility to learn from the recent past in order to reformulate it and make the most of it to envision the future.
Decimononic is conceived as an holistic aesthetical proposal and we want it to become our instrument to change the world for better.
4. Mastery is essential to provide real value.
We believe in the significance of quality, trying to dream up life-lasting creations that can become a legacy. This requires an innovative approach, providing the necessary means to achieve the desired goals: be it traditional craftsmanship mastery or state-of-the-art technology, we are determined to go for it. This is no accident, since Decimononic was born as a transdisciplinary experimental project.
Last but not least, let’s remember that Singularity is Luxury.
5. Beauty is not always evident and may be found in unexpected places.
‘Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it’.
Confucious
As philosopher Francis Bacon (1561-1626) said… ‘in order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present’. Beauty may be fierce, misterious, intimidating, savage, haunting, fearsome. We believe that beauty may be found everywhere when we are receptive and open, when we are actually prepared to unveil it.
We want you to join The Singulars!
